Night shift also affects many hormones in the body. Melatonin, which causes us to sleep, is often released at night. Similarly, cortisol, a hormone associated with stress, is often released in the morning. But the timing of the release of these hormones is disrupted when you shift night. Due to this, people who work in night shifts have more sleeplessness and mental problems.
