Why Ratan Tata Is Not In Billionaires List

Ratan Tata is one of the most respected business magnates in India, known for his exceptional business acumen and extensive philanthropic activities. He led the Tata Group as Chairman from 1990 to 2012 and served as Interim Chairman from October 2016 to February 2017. Although he no longer holds any official position in the Tata Group, he continues to head the group's charitable trusts. Interestingly, despite his significant influence and contributions, Ratan Tata is not listed among the world's billionaires by Forbes.

Why is Ratan Tata Not in the Billionaires List?

According to the IIFL Wealth Hurun India Rich List 2022, Ratan Tata ranks 421st among India's wealthiest individuals with a net worth of ₹3,800 crore. In 2021, he was in the 433rd position with a net worth of ₹3,500 crore. In contrast, business tycoons like Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani have wealth in the trillions of rupees.

The key reason behind this is that a significant portion of Ratan Tata's wealth is derived from Tata Sons. Remarkably, 66% of Tata Sons' profits are allocated to charitable trusts, which fund initiatives in education, health, livelihood, and culture. This philanthropic approach, established by Jamsetji Tata, ensures that most of the profits from Tata Sons go to charity, rather than personal wealth.

In essence, while Tata's wealth might not compare to Ambani's or Adani's in terms of sheer numbers, his contributions to society through charitable activities have won him the hearts of millions of Indians.
