Why Ms Dhoni Is Not Eligible To Apply For India Head Coach Job

The term of Team India's current head coach Rahul Dravid will end with the T20 World Cup. 🏏 With this, BCCI has started the hunt for a new coach. Many fans are rooting for the legendary MS Dhoni, former captain of Chennai Super Kings, to become the new head coach. However, Dhoni is not eligible to apply for the position of Indian team head coach.

According to BCCI rules, only retired players in all formats of the game are eligible for the head coach position. Dhoni retired from international cricket on August 15, 2020, but he is still playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL. Hence, he cannot apply for the coach role yet. Even though there are rumors that IPL 2024 will be Dhoni's last season, he hasn't responded to this.

Currently, Dhoni is in great form. In the 17th season of IPL, he has scored with a strike rate of over 220. He got out only three times in 11 innings. Dhoni was also the mentor for Team India in the 2021 T20 World Cup held in UAE, but the team was knocked out in the group stage.

Who's the Favorite to Become India's Next Head Coach?

Applications for the position of India's head coach closed on Monday. BCCI had released a public Google form for candidates to apply. Over 3,000 applications were received. According to the Indian Express, many fake applications came in with names like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Sachin Tendulkar.
