As Prime Minister Narendra Modi approaches the unofficial retirement age of 75, a key question looms over the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): Who will take over after Modi? The BJP has an informal rule that leaders should retire from active politics after the age of 75, sparking widespread speculation about Modi's successor.
In light of this, India Today conducted a Mood of the Nation survey to gauge public opinion on who should be the next Prime Minister from the BJP. The survey revealed that no single leader within the party enjoys overwhelming public support, indicating a potential leadership challenge ahead.
According to the survey:
Amit Shah leads with 25% of the respondents supporting him as the next Prime Minister.
Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, follows closely with 19% support.
Nitin Gadkari has the backing of 13% of respondents.
Rajnath Singh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan each have 5% support.
This survey highlights that while Amit Shah and Yogi Adityanath are the frontrunners, the race for leadership in the BJP remains open, with several potential candidates vying for the top spot.
