#VoiceofGPS: Meet Karen Jacobsen, the Voice Behind Google Maps!

In today's world, it's hard to find someone who hasn't used Google Maps. Whether it's finding unfamiliar places, relatives' homes, office addresses, or nearby banks and hospitals, many people rely on it. But do you know whose melodic voice guides you to your destination? If not, read on!

The voice that provides GPS directions on Google and Apple's Siri belongs to Karen Jacobsen from Australia. She's not just a voice-over artist but also a singer, songwriter, and inspirational speaker. Karen's journey into the world of voice began at the age of seven when she developed an interest in writing songs and singing jingles she heard on TV. Deciding to pursue a career in music, she graduated with a focus on voice and piano and earned a diploma as a piano associate.

Karen gained immense popularity by singing the Australian national anthem at various sporting events and lending her voice to thousands of commercials. Inspired by British-Australian singer Olivia Newton-John, Karen moved to New York to seek more opportunities and fame. There, she created her own label called "Curly Girl" and released ten albums.

Her life took a significant turn when she auditioned for a voice recording by an IT company. Impressed by her voice, the company gave her a huge telephone directory and asked her to record all the information in it. Although she didn't understand the purpose at the time, she completed the task over three weeks. She forgot about it until a friend called her years later, telling her that her voice was being used in GPS devices. This revelation surprised Karen and marked a turning point in her career.

Initially, her voice was used for Android phones, but it was later integrated into Apple's Siri voice app. Recognized for her talent, Karen's voice now enchants users on TV, radio, and the internet. Her exceptional work earned her the prestigious Jazz Prize.
