Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma eager to play T20Is; inform BCCI about their availability🏏🌟

🏏🌟 Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have been out of the T20I set up since India's T20 World Cup exit in 2022, are now keen to play in the T20 Internationals, according to a report.

🇮🇳🏏 Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have informed the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) about their availability for the T20 Internationals, according to a report in The Indian Express. Both Kohli and Rohit haven’t featured in T20Is since the team’s defeat in the T20 World Cup 2022. After the conclusion of the Test series in South Africa, Team India’s next assignment is a 3-T20I series against Afghanistan at home.

The series against the Asian neighbours begins on January 11, for which the team is likely to be picked today (January 5, Friday). According to the report, the sectors are set to meet today to pick the teams for the Afghanistan series and the Test series against England, starting later this month. 🗓️

🌐 The chatter about the comeback of the star duo is mostly circled around their availability for the T20 World Cup 2024. The Indian team will play just three T20Is in the run-up to the T20 World Cup, which will be held in the West Indies and the United States later this year. The Indian team management is yet to find their best playing XI, and three matches are not enough to zero in on the strongest XI, which will feature in the mega-event.

While both Rohit and Kohli haven’t been part of India’s T20I squad, they have actively featured in IPL. Rohit’s case could be strengthened by the questions surrounding Hardik Pandya’s availability. The star all-rounder has been out injured since the ODI World Cup. 🤕

While Kohli’s form in ODIs and Tests has been superb in 2023, it’ll be interesting to see if that merits his return in the T20I set-up.

The team management faces a big dilemma. All the recent selections in T20Is have been made looking at the future, and if Kohli and Rohit return to the T20I set-up, it will, perhaps, be a sign of regression, not progression. 🤔
