The Telangana government has proposed new plans to extend the metro rail network. In his budget speech, Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced the extension from Rayadurg to the U.S. Consulate in the Financial District, initially proposed for 8 km. This route will now be extended to Kokapet Neopolis, adding 3.3 km. This extension has increased the overall estimates.
Officials recently scouted suitable land for setting up a metro depot in the area. Additionally, the originally estimated 29 km airport metro from Nagole, LB Nagar, and Jalpally to Shamshabad Airport has been extended by 4 km. In the same corridor, a 5 km metro route from Mailardevpally to Aramghar and the new High Court has been proposed in the second phase.
As a result, the total distance in the second phase has increased, with the overall metro rail length going from the previously proposed 70 km to 78.4 km, raising the estimated cost to ā¹24,042 crores. The budget speech also highlighted plans to develop Nagole, LB Nagar, and Chandrayangutta as metro interchange stations.
