Supreme Court Agrees To List PIL Against Freebies During Polls📋🚫

The Supreme Court on Thursday (March 21) agreed to hear a Public Interest Litigation filed by political parties against the announcement of free meals during elections. The petition termed the free speech announcements by the parties to get political benefits from the voters as a violation of the constitution. Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay has filed a Public Interest Litigation to direct the Central Election Commission to take appropriate measures to ban these immediately. This development is likely to have a major impact on the general elections to be held on April 19. In the PIL, he stated that the Election Commission should take steps to freeze the symbols of parties that make free speech advertisements during elections and cancel the registration of parties that advertise in such ways. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra recognized the importance of this issue and stated that it is a very important issue and will hear this petition as soon as possible. 📋🚫
