Alert for WhatsApp users. WhatsApp, a popular messaging platform owned by Meta, shocked users by banning 74 lakh accounts in India in one month. According to the latest report released by WhatsApp India, 74 lakh accounts were banned in the month of August in accordance with the IT norms. In the month of August, a total of 74 lakh accounts were banned, out of which 35 lakh accounts were taken before complaints were received from users.
The complaints received from the users on the respective accounts.. along with the actions taken on them, the details of the preventive measures taken by WhatsApp itself to prevent abuse on the platform are contained in the 'User-Safety Report'. Between August 1 and August 31, a total of 74,20,748 WhatsApp accounts have been banned.. Out of these 3,506,905 accounts have not received any complaints from users, but WhatsApp has revealed that it has taken preemptive action. WhatsApp has banned more than 66 lakh accounts in the month of June. It has banned a total of 6,611,700 WhatsApp accounts between 1st and 30th June 2023. Out of which 2,434,200 accounts were pre-banned regardless of complaints.
'Accounts Actioned' refers to the Company banning an account. WhatsApp is banning accounts based on complaints from users. The government introduced a system called Grievances Appellate Committee (GAC) this year. It allows the user to appeal the decisions of the social media platform based on the complaints registered in this portal. In view of user safety in the course of misusing WhatsApp, the company is imposing a ban on the respective accounts based on the complaints received from the users.
