In a shocking move, Bangladesh's interim government has revoked all diplomatic passports issued during former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's tenure, including her own. The Bangladesh Home Ministry announced this decision, stating that all diplomatic passports given to former MPs under Sheikh Hasina's Awami League government have been canceled. This decision was made public on Wednesday evening.
The interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, provided several reasons for this action, with one of the main factors being the over 44 criminal cases currently pending against Sheikh Hasina. The government emphasized that more cases could be filed, making it necessary to revoke her diplomatic privileges.
Sheikh Hasina, who had to flee Dhaka following violent anti-reservation protests, is now residing in India. Protesters had stormed and damaged the Prime Minister's residence, with reports indicating that some belongings were looted. Following these events, Sheikh Hasina sought refuge in India, landing at Ghaziabad's Hindon Airbase, and is currently staying in New Delhi. As of now, there has been no official response from Sheikh Hasina regarding the cancellation of her diplomatic passport.
