Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi stirred up a storm by claiming that secularism is a "European concept" that has no place in India. Speaking at an event, he said the term was wrongfully added to the Indian Constitution by Indira Gandhi during the Emergency to "appease certain groups." According to him, India's society, based on dharma, didn’t need the concept of secularism. Opposition parties are strongly criticizing his statement.
