Second Phase Polling Begins Across India

The second phase of polling for the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 kicked off today across India, with 88 constituencies in 13 states and Union territories opening their booths. Voting commenced at 7 AM and is set to conclude at 6 PM. A total of 1,202 candidates are in the fray, competing for the support of over 158.8 million eligible voters.

Voters in Kerala will decide among candidates in 20 constituencies, while Karnataka has 14 constituencies active today. Rajasthan and Maharashtra are watching closely with 13 and 8 constituencies respectively. Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh each have polls in 8 and 6 constituencies. The states of Assam and Bihar are each polling in 5 constituencies, while Chhattisgarh and West Bengal have 3 each. Additionally, Manipur, Tripura, and Jammu and Kashmir have one constituency each going to the polls. Notably, polling for the Bethul constituency in Madhya Pradesh has been rescheduled due to the sudden demise of a BSP candidate there.

Prominent figures such as Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, BJP leader Tejasvi Surya, actors-turned-politicians Hema Malini, as well as Congress stalwarts Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, and former Karnataka CM H.D. Kumaraswamy, are among those whose electoral fate will be tested in this phase.
