Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to make a historic visit to Ukraine, marking his first trip to the war-torn nation. This visit comes amid ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Modi had previously urged for an end to the war during a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in September 2022. The Indian PM's call for peace was well-received by global leaders.
Since the conflict began, India has consistently advocated for a resolution through dialogue and diplomacy. Modi reiterated India's readiness to support any peace efforts. The two leaders had met twice before, first at the G-7 summit in Japan last year and again at the G-7 summit in Italy in June, where they discussed the situation in Ukraine.
In August, Modi visited Russia, where he was honored with the Order of St. Andrew the Apostle by Putin for his exceptional services in enhancing bilateral relations. Following this, Modi's upcoming visit to Ukraine, coinciding with Ukraine's Independence Day on August 24, is of significant importance.
However, the visit is still in the discussion phase and awaits official confirmation. Modi's trip to Ukraine, within a month of his Russia visit, highlights India's balanced diplomatic approach and its commitment to peace.
