In response to the devastating accident, PM Modi has extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. He announced that an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) will be provided to the families of the deceased. Additionally, ₹50,000 will be given to those injured to assist with their medical treatment.
CM Chandrababu Naidu to Visit Achyutapuram
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to visit Achyutapuram today. He is expected to arrive in Visakhapatnam at 11:30 AM, where he will visit the hospital to meet those injured in the accident. At 12:30 PM, CM Naidu will visit the site of the incident to assess the situation and review the conditions at the SEZ.
Details of the Incident
The tragedy occurred at the Essencia Advanced Sciences Private Limited located within the Achyutapuram SEZ. A massive explosion in a reactor resulted in the deaths of 18 workers, with another 40 injured. At the time of the explosion, over 300 staff members were present on the premises, leading to widespread panic and chaos.
The explosion happened around 1:30 PM during the lunch break, catching everyone off guard. Flames erupted suddenly, and thick smoke filled the area, turning it into a scene of darkness and confusion. Workers, fearing for their lives, rushed out of the building. The loud blast startled nearby villagers as well. Firefighting teams, including 11 fire engines, rushed to the scene and eventually brought the flames under control.
This tragic event highlights the ongoing risks and negligence often associated with industrial safety, where workers' lives are continually endangered.
