NEET2024Scandal: Massive Leak Shakes India's Medical Entrance Exam

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS courses has sparked a nationwide controversy with 67 students securing the first rank and 1563 students receiving grace marks. Suspicions of a paper leak have led to the arrest of several students, revealing shocking details during the investigation. Bihar Police have disclosed that the arrested students admitted to receiving the paper the night before the exam. Sikandar Yadavendu, a Junior Engineer at Danapur Municipal Council, confessed to leaking the paper.

Police investigations revealed that three students - Anurag Yadav, Amit Anand, and Nitish Kumar - were detained. Anurag Yadav admitted that they received the paper with answers the night before the exam, and they spent the night memorizing the answers to prepare for the test. Sikandar, the main accused, confirmed that he leaked the paper from his flat and collected Rs. 30-32 lakhs from each student involved.

In response to this scandal, the central education ministry has demanded a full report from Bihar Police. NEET 2024 saw participation from 24 lakh students nationwide. The controversy has raised serious doubts about the National Testing Agency's (NTA) handling of the exam, with issues like delayed question papers and undisclosed grace marks causing frustration among students. Legal petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court and various High Courts across the country.

Students and opposition parties have staged protests, accusing the Modi government of corruption and rigging. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized BJP-ruled states for becoming hotbeds of such scandals. However, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan dismissed the allegations of the paper leak.
