Majestic Krishna River at Nagarjuna Sagar: 20 Gates Opened 🚤

The mighty Krishna River is surging at Nagarjuna Sagar! 🌊 Due to heavy rains in the upper states, the reservoir at Nagarjuna Sagar has become full to the brim, prompting authorities to open 20 crest gates. This has transformed the Nagarjuna Sagar project into a stunning spectacle of nature's beauty, with the Krishna River flowing majestically.

Currently, the water level in the reservoir has reached 585.10 feet, just shy of its maximum capacity of 590 feet. The reservoir, which can hold 312 TMC (Thousand Million Cubic feet) of water, is now at 297.50 TMC. From the Srisailam project, around three lakh cusecs of floodwater is flowing into Nagarjuna Sagar. This influx of water has been a welcome change, as the reservoir had been running low due to insufficient floodwaters in the past. The last time the crest gates were opened to release water downstream was on August 11, 2022. Now, for the first time since then, the gates have been lifted again. 🚀

Tourist Influx at Sagar

The opening of the gates at Nagarjuna Sagar has attracted a massive number of tourists eager to witness the breathtaking views of the reservoir. The area around the project is bustling with visitors, all capturing the stunning sight of Krishna's waters with their phones. Tourists are flocking to see the beauty of Sagar, with popular spots like Anupu, Buddha Vanam, the new bridge, and the old bridge buzzing with activity.

The tourism department is also running four launch trips from the newly established launch station behind the Hill Colony Vijay Vihar Guest House to the famous Nagarjunakonda in the middle of the reservoir. The serene beauty and historical significance of the area are drawing crowds from all over. 📸
