Overview: Many young adults migrate to urban areas in search of better job opportunities but find themselves at a disadvantage due to their limited English proficiency. Google’s new speaking practice tool is designed to address this challenge by providing interactive exercises that make learning conversational English more accessible.
How It Works: The AI-powered tool integrates various interactive exercises to aid users in practicing English effortlessly. It doesn’t teach comprehensive English but focuses on improving speaking skills through daily conversational practices. Users can either speak directly or type their responses, which the AI evaluates to provide immediate feedback and suggestions for improvement.
Availability: Currently, this feature is being tested in multiple countries, including India, Argentina, Colombia, Indonesia, Mexico, and Venezuela. It's part of an experimental program aiming to make linguistic skills more accessible.
Activation Process: To access this feature, users must enroll in Google’s Search Labs program. Once enrolled, simply open the Google app on an Android device, click on the lab symbol in the top left corner, and enable the speaking practice option from the AI experiments section.
