Krmb Allocates Total 14 Tmc Ft Water To Telangana And Andhra Pradesh

The three-member committee of the Krishna Board has agreed for Telangana to take 8.5 TMC and Andhra Pradesh 5.5 TMC for drinking water needs from Nagarjunasagar. An order was made on Friday making allotments to this extent.

Actually, AP demanded 14 TMCs and Telangana demanded 10 TMCs. But, the committee rejected their demands and concluded that it was not possible. A three-member committee met on Friday at the board's office in Hyderabad. In this meeting which was held for more than two hours, fierce arguments took place between the officials of both the states. In the board meeting held in October last year, 35 TMCs were allotted to Telangana and 45 TMCs to AP from Srisailam and Sagars. In this background, mutual accusations were made about the consumption of this quota water.

The board advised both the states to use water sparingly in view of drinking water requirements. While the maximum drawdown level (MDDL) from Sagar is 510 feet, it has been decided to take water from 500 feet. Sagar currently has 132.86 TMCs at 510.53 feet. 17.55 TMC will be available above 500 feet.. 14 TMC should be utilized for the needs of Telugu states till May. The board directed that the remaining 3.55 TMC should be excluded for future needs.
