Protection Against Domestic Violence:The Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, shields women from various forms of violence at home. It's not just about physical abuse; any form of emotional, financial, verbal, or sexual abuse can lead to strict punishment under Section 498.
Equal Pay for Equal Work:Women have the right to equal pay for equal work. The 'Equal Remuneration Act' ensures that women, from daily laborers to high-ranking officials, can demand the same pay as their male colleagues. It's illegal to discriminate based on gender in terms of wages and allowances.
Protection at the Workplace:A special law protects women from sexual harassment at the workplace. Under this law, women can report any harassment to their superiors. Organizations with more than ten employees must have an Internal Complaints Committee to address such complaints.
No Arrest at Night:Women cannot be arrested between sunset and sunrise unless it's an emergency and there is a First-Class Magistrate's order. Moreover, a female constable must be present during questioning, and a family member or friend can accompany the woman.
Right to Privacy:Victims of sexual harassment have the "right to privacy," which means their identity must be kept confidential. They can record their statement before a magistrate alone or in the presence of a female police officer.
Free Legal Aid:Under the Legal Services Authorities Act, rape survivors are entitled to free legal assistance. This law ensures that women facing difficulties receive legal help.
Right to Dignity:Victims of sexual harassment have the right to maintain their dignity. Any necessary medical examination must be done by a female doctor only, and no physical or mental tests should be conducted in the presence of others, as it is against the law.
