Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal faced a setback in his legal battle as the Supreme Court denied him interim bail in a CBI case. Kejriwal had approached the Supreme Court, challenging his arrest by the CBI and seeking regular bail. The AAP legal team revealed on Monday that they had filed a petition for regular bail in the case. Additionally, Kejriwal filed two more petitions opposing the Delhi High Courtās stay on the interim bail granted to him earlier by the trial court.
Supreme Court's Decision
During todayās hearing, the Supreme Court heard arguments from both sides. After considering the arguments, the bench made it clear that they could not grant interim bail to Kejriwal at this stage. The court issued a notice to the CBI, seeking a response to Kejriwalās petition. The next hearing is scheduled for August 23.
Background of the Case
Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in March this year in connection with allegations of a liquor scam. Since then, he has been lodged in Tihar Jail. Despite being granted bail by the Supreme Court in the ED case, he remains in judicial custody in the CBI case. Recently, the Delhi court extended Kejriwalās judicial custody until September 2, further complicating his efforts to secure release.
This development adds another layer of complexity to the legal troubles surrounding Arvind Kejriwal, who continues to face challenges from multiple fronts in his fight for freedom.
