Kejriwal Unyielding: No Resignation Despite Jail Threats

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor, Arvind Kejriwal, has made a significant announcement regarding his position. Despite being arrested in the Delhi liquor case and currently out on interim bail, he has firmly stated that he will not resign from his post even if he has to return to Tihar Jail. Kejriwal emphasized that he will continue to govern Delhi, even from jail if necessary, and that resigning would have a major impact on the nation.

Kejriwal highlighted that resigning would set a precedent for the central government led by Narendra Modi to arrest opposition Chief Ministers in states where they hold power. He was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case related to the Delhi liquor scam and subsequently sent to Tihar Jail. BJP leaders have been demanding his resignation for several days, but Kejriwal remains steadfast in his decision.

Responding to the BJP leaders' demands, Kejriwal reiterated that he would not resign under any circumstances. He recalled his past actions, such as resigning from his position as Income Tax Commissioner to work in Delhi's slums and resigning as Delhi's Chief Minister in 2013 after just 49 days in office. Kejriwal noted that while many people hesitate to leave even minor jobs, he had resigned from significant positions for the sake of the people. He emphasized that he is currently fighting for the people and therefore will not resign.

Kejriwal alleged that the Delhi liquor scam is a fabricated case. He mentioned that the Aam Aadmi Party won 67 seats in the 2015 Delhi Assembly elections and 62 seats in the 2020 elections. He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of orchestrating his arrest because the BJP could not defeat the AAP in the elections. Kejriwal also accused the BJP of arresting key leaders in his party, including Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, on false charges.

He warned that if he were to resign as Chief Minister, it would pave the way for the BJP to arrest opposition leaders in other states. He mentioned that this could lead to the arrest of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin. Therefore, Kejriwal made it clear that he will not resign.
