Kani Kusruti From Struggles to Stardom at Cannes 🌟

Kani Kusruti is a name that's been trending on social media for the past three weeks. Her career took a remarkable turn with the film "All We Imagine as Light." Directed by Payal Kapadia, this movie won the Grand Prix Award at the Cannes Film Festival. Kani, a talented Malayalam actress, played a key role in the film. At Cannes, she caught everyone's attention with her unique watermelon-shaped handbag.

In a recent interview, Kani opened up about the hardships she faced in her life. She mentioned the financial struggles she endured during the early days of her acting career. "I can only be at peace when I am financially independent. Acting in movies was a means to earn a living. In 2020, I won the Kerala State Film Award and the Best Actress Award at the Moscow International Film Festival for my Malayalam movie 'Biriyani'. But before that, my life was a constant struggle," she shared.

Kani recalled a time when director Sajin Babu approached her with a script. Despite her financial difficulties, she turned down the role, advising him to find someone else. Three months later, the producer contacted her again, offering ₹70,000 for the role in 'Biriyani'. At that time, she had only ₹3,000 in her account.

"If I had stuck to theater, I might have earned well, and I wouldn't have come to films. In the future, if I don’t have a way to earn a living, I might have to do things I don’t like again," Kani added.

"All We Imagine as Light" revolves around the lives of two Malayali nurses living in Mumbai, featuring Divya Prabha, Chhaya Kadam, Hridu Haroon, Aziz Nedumangad, and Tintumol Joseph in key roles.
