š There are reports that BCCI is planning to organize the tournament in two phases if the elections are held during the IPL. Due to this, BCCI is delaying the IPL schedule. The IPL schedule will be announced once the election date is finalized. BCCI has already discussed this with the Government of India. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said that the final decision on the start of IPL will be taken soon. So, the IPL date is likely to be announced in February.
šļø According to the latest update from the Election Commission of India (ECI), the general elections are likely to begin in mid-April. The Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi has sent a notification with a provisional date of 16th April. That means elections are almost certain to be held in mid-April-May.
š BCCI plans to start IPL from March 22. They also discussed about organizing matches during elections abroad. Accordingly, the possibility of holding the IPL abroad as well as in India has increased.
š 20 IPL matches were held in Dubai during Lok Sabha elections in 2014. Earlier, the entire tournament was held in South Africa in the wake of the 2009 general elections. Now, due to the third election, there is a possibility that some matches of IPL will be shifted to foreign countries. š
