Every year on June 21st, we celebrate International Yoga Day. This day was chosen because it has the longest daylight period in the Northern Hemisphere, symbolizing enlightenment and wellness. Since 2015, this day has been dedicated to the practice of yoga, which aims to unify the mind and body, focusing on breathing and concentration. šŸ§˜ā€ā™‚ļøšŸŒ

History:

Yoga originated in India. In September 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed celebrating yoga internationally to promote public health during his speech at the UN General Assembly. He highlighted that yoga, a valuable gift from ancient traditions, promotes unity of mind, body, thoughts, and actions. Since then, June 21st has been observed globally as International Yoga Day, with support from 175 member countries. šŸ›ļøšŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø

Importance:

The purpose of International Yoga Day is to promote yoga as a part of our lifestyle to enhance health and well-being. Yoga helps in improving physical strength and mental tranquility. Historically, yoga focused on mental clarity and spiritual strength, but its benefits in fitness have made it an integral part of physical wellness routines. šŸŒ±šŸ’–

What is Yoga?

The word "Yoga" comes from Sanskrit. Initially called "Yuj," it means to unite or integrate. Yoga unifies the mind and body, promoting overall health. It is believed that Adiyogi (Lord Shiva) initiated yoga. Regardless of its origins, yoga is an excellent form of exercise that doesnā€™t require lifting weights or running. Simple postures can bring immense health benefits. So, why not start practicing yoga today? šŸŒæšŸ™Œ
