The film industry can be a tough place, especially when it comes to maintaining professional commitments. Actress Ileana D'Cruz found herself in a challenging situation when she was banned from both Telugu and Tamil cinema. This ban was enforced by the producers' guilds, which hold significant influence in the industry.
The controversy started when Ileana allegedly took an advance payment of ₹40 lakhs from a Tamil producer for a movie, but failed to allocate her dates as promised. Despite receiving the advance, she did not fulfill her commitment, leading the producer to file a complaint with the guild. Upon investigation, it was discovered that during the dates she was supposed to be working on the Tamil film, Ileana was actually shooting for another project.
As per industry rules, once an actor takes an advance, they must show up on set and begin work on the film. If the project doesn’t proceed as planned, the advance must be returned. However, in this case, Ileana didn’t comply with these guidelines, leading to her ban.
At the time of the ban, Ileana was working on the Tamil film Nanban with Vijay, which turned out to be her last Tamil film. Following this incident, she was effectively blacklisted from Telugu and Tamil cinema from 2012 to 2018. Her return to Telugu cinema came with the 2018 film Amar Akbar Anthony alongside Ravi Teja. However, since then, she hasn't appeared in any South Indian films.
In addition to her professional life, Ileana also made headlines in 2014 when she renounced her Indian citizenship to become a Portuguese citizen. In 2023, she married American actor Michael Dolan, and the couple welcomed a baby boy. Currently, Ileana is focused on her Bollywood career.
