Hyderabad Water Board Warns Against Opening Manholes During Monsoon Season 🌧️🚫

Hey everyone! With the monsoon season upon us, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has issued strict warnings about the dangers of opening manholes. To prevent accidents and ensure safety, they’ve taken several precautions.

Here’s what’s happening:

Safety Measures in Place:

  1. Safety Grills and Seals: Over 25,000 manholes have been equipped with safety grills. Major roads have sealed manholes with red paint to indicate danger zones.

  2. Emergency Response Teams: Vehicles equipped with de-watering motors and generators are on standby to remove rainwater quickly.

  3. Monitoring Teams: Sewer inspectors lead teams to monitor manholes, clear chokages, and coordinate with GHMC officials.

  4. Immediate Waste Removal: Air tech machines are available to promptly remove silt and waste from manholes.

Legal Consequences:

Opening or tampering with manhole covers without permission is a crime under HMWSSB ACT – 1989, Section 74. Offenders face criminal charges, fines, and possible jail time.

Worker Training and Awareness:

Sanitation workers receive annual safety training on SOP guidelines and first aid to handle emergencies. The Water Board also conducts awareness campaigns on how to maintain sewer systems during the monsoon.

Public Awareness Campaigns:

The HMWSSB is spreading the word through local colony associations, SHG groups, newspapers, TV, Twitter, and Facebook about the dos and don’ts during the rainy season.

Stay safe and report any open manholes or issues to the Water Board’s customer care number 155313 or visit the nearest HMWSSB office.
