According to legend, an invitation was sent from Barsana area near Mathura, where Radha lived, to Nandgaon, where Krishna lived, to celebrate Holi. The bearer of this invitation is called Panda. The people of Nandgaon received the invitation and gladly accepted. Another letter was sent to Barsana expressing their acceptance. When Panda brought this letter, the people there happily welcomed him with brownies on a thali plate.

Just then some gopis came there and threw colors on the priest. In time, the priest had no colors in his hand and threw the brownies back at them. Since then Laddu Holi is being celebrated as a traditional celebration in Barsana. Enthusiasts from faraway places also reach here during the festival to witness and participate in this fun-filled celebration. During this time the entire temple is filled with colors and brownies.
