Telangana government has brought a great relief to farmers with its loan waiver scheme, even for those without a ration card. Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao announced that farmers who don't have a ration card need not worry as they will also benefit from the loan waiver scheme. The government has issued guidelines stating that every family will get a loan waiver of up to ₹2 lakhs. Minister Rao emphasized that the ration card requirement is only for family verification purposes. Those without a ration card will undergo personal verification to ensure they receive the waiver. The scheme covers loans taken from all commercial, regional, and cooperative banks in Telangana. Loans sanctioned or renewed on or after December 12, 2018, and outstanding as of December 9, 2023, are eligible for this waiver.
However, there's confusion among farmers regarding the necessity of a ration card, as the guidelines state it's mandatory, but Minister Rao assures it's not required. This has led to some uncertainty among the farmers.
