The Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to get even more exciting for cricket fans in its 2025 season! The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced that the upcoming IPL 2025 season, which marks the 18th edition of the tournament, will feature a significant increase in the number of matches. Instead of the usual 74 matches, the season will now have a whopping 84 matches, adding extra thrills for the fans!
This expansion is part of BCCI's larger plan to gradually increase the number of matches over the coming seasons. By IPL 2027, the league is expected to feature a total of 94 matches. The current round-robin format will continue through IPL 2025 and 2026, ensuring that each team plays against others in a more comprehensive manner.
In IPL 2027, the tournament will shift to a league format, where every team will play two matches against each other, leading to 90 matches just in the league stage. This expansion aims to enhance the excitement and keep fans engaged throughout the tournament.
BCCI is still finalizing the details, but one thing is clear—the playoff format will remain unchanged, with the first qualifier, eliminator, second qualifier, and final match structure continuing as it is.
