Renowned Telugu director Puri Jagannadh recently shared a heartwarming story about an emotional phone call he received from legendary writer Vijayendra Prasad. While it's common for directors to receive congratulatory calls after a film's success, Puri revealed that this call came after one of his films did not perform well.
An Unexpected Call
During a recent interview, Puri Jagannadh opened up about the unexpected call from Vijayendra Prasad, father of acclaimed director S.S. Rajamouli. Puri recounted, “After a film flops, not many people call you. But Vijayendra Prasad did. He asked me for a favor, and I wondered what it could be. He said, ‘When are you making your next movie? Whenever you do, can you share the story with me first?’”
Puri was initially puzzled but soon realized the intent behind Prasad’s request. Vijayendra Prasad expressed his concern, saying, “I can't bear to see directors like you fail. Sometimes, small mistakes can happen. That’s why I want to hear your story once before you proceed.” Puri was deeply moved by the support and care shown by Vijayendra Prasad.
A Lifelong Fan
Vijayendra Prasad is known for his admiration of Puri Jagannadh’s talent, passion, and unique style in filmmaking. He holds Puri in high regard, to the extent that he set one of Puri's film images as his mobile wallpaper. This admiration and encouragement deeply touched Puri, who shared that he will never forget the supportive call.
Though Puri did not share his new story with Vijayendra Prasad, he plans to carefully craft his next project and show the finished film directly to him.
This touching story highlights the bond and mutual respect between two of Tollywood’s most talented figures, showing how support within the industry can make a significant impact.
