The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting raids at the residence of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The raids are related to financial irregularities during his tenure at the medical college. Alongside his house, raids are also being conducted at the residences of three of his close associates. Sandip Ghosh is currently in CBI custody; he was arrested on the 2nd of this month. The court has granted him an eight-day judicial custody. Earlier, he was questioned for 15 days in connection with a trainee doctor’s murder case.

On August 9th, the tragic incident of a trainee doctor's murder in the R.G. Kar Medical College Hospital created a nationwide stir. Following the incident, Professor Sandip Ghosh resigned from his position as the principal. However, within hours, he was appointed to another key position by the Mamata Banerjee government. The Kolkata High Court, which is probing the trainee doctor's murder case, directed the government to send Professor Ghosh on leave.
