📚 What is the difference between IPC and CRPC?

📘 IPC stands for Indian Penal Code. This is a British system. This process has been going on since then. The IPC was established in 1860 and came into force in 1862. But the Indian Judicial Code 2023 (BNS 2023) lays down separate laws for crimes, especially crimes like rape and physical abuse. BNS will be brought in place of IPC.

📘 Talking about CRPC.. Criminal cases are first filed under IPC. When they reach the court they proceed under CRPC (Criminal Procedure Code). This bill was approved in 1973 and came into effect in 1974. The three old laws which were framed and enforced during the British rule were subsequently amended as necessary in independent India. The IPC has been amended 12 times since 1959. Currently there are 555 sections in IPC. 📜
