Concerns Over Gurukuls: RS Praveen Kumar Raises Alarm on Student Welfare 🚨

Hyderabad: BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar has expressed grave concerns over the welfare and safety of underprivileged students studying in Gurukuls (residential schools) in Telangana. This follows the tragic deaths of two students due to snake bites at the Peddapalli Gurukul School in Jagityal district, with two more students currently on ventilators. Kumar questions the lack of attention to the safety and well-being of these children, criticizing the government for its negligence.

Safety Concerns in Residential Schools

Praveen Kumar highlighted the absence of duty nurses in these institutions, questioning whether the lives of poor children are considered less valuable than those studying in public, international, and corporate schools in Hyderabad. He demanded answers from the government regarding the funds allocated for repairs to prevent snakes, scorpions, and rats from entering dormitories.

Call for Accountability

Kumar pointed out that while double beds were provided to prevent students from sleeping on the floor and being bitten by snakes, such provisions have not been made available in all Gurukuls. He criticized the government for its inaction and demanded to know when permanent buildings would be constructed for these schools and hostels.

Questioning Political Priorities

RS Praveen Kumar also questioned why MLAs and MLCs from marginalized communities are not holding the Chief Minister accountable for the safety of these children. He asked whether positions of power are more important than the lives of the people they are meant to serve. Kumar further criticized the silence of SC, ST, and BC Human Rights Commissions on this critical issue.

Urgent Need for Action

The situation in Gurukuls highlights the urgent need for improved infrastructure, safety measures, and accountability to ensure the welfare of underprivileged students in Telangana. The government’s response and actions will be crucial in addressing these concerns and preventing further tragedies.
