CM Kejriwal Writes to Governor from Jail, Nominates Atishi for Independence Day Flag Hoisting 📝

In a significant development amidst the ongoing liquor policy corruption case, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, currently lodged in Tihar Jail, has written a letter to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena. In the letter, Kejriwal has nominated Cabinet Minister Atishi to hoist the national flag on his behalf at the upcoming Independence Day celebrations on August 15.

Key Details

Kejriwal, who faces corruption charges in connection with the alleged liquor policy scam, informed the Governor through a written communication that Atishi will represent him at the government’s Independence Day event. The letter was sent from jail, highlighting the Chief Minister's ongoing involvement in state affairs despite his incarceration.

Delhi's government traditionally holds its Independence Day celebrations at the Chhatrasal Stadium, where the Chief Minister addresses the gathering. However, due to his current situation, Atishi will perform the ceremonial flag hoisting.

Legal Background

Kejriwal is currently held under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) charges. Although he was granted bail by the Rouse Avenue Court on June 20, the Delhi High Court stayed the order, keeping him in custody pending further hearings. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has been actively pursuing the case, challenging the bail granted to him.

Nationwide Celebrations

As India prepares to celebrate its 77th Independence Day, states across the country are gearing up for festivities on August 15. The primary celebrations will take place at the Red Fort in Delhi, where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hoist the national flag and address the nation.
