Ban Lift! Modi Govt Opens Rice Exports to Select Countries 🌾

In a significant move, the Modi government has lifted the ban on rice exports to specific nations after nearly 11 months. The restriction was initially placed due to rising domestic rice prices, aiming to ensure adequate local supply. However, with the situation now under control, the government is selectively allowing exports to meet international commitments and aid food security in partner nations.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has announced permission to export 14,000 tonnes of non-Basmati white rice to Mauritius through the National Cooperative Export Limited (NCEL). This decision comes after previous approvals were granted to countries like Tanzania, Djibouti, and Guinea-Bissau, among others. The ongoing global food crisis has prompted India to reassess its export policies to aid its allies without compromising domestic availability.

This development could have far-reaching effects on global rice trade dynamics and India's position as a leading rice exporter. It reflects the government's balanced approach to managing national food security while fulfilling international obligations.
