Team India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a rare record in the third Test against England here. Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin became the second Indian bowler to take 500 Test wickets on Friday.
But he remains the second highest wicket-taker for India after retired former captain Anil Kumble. The 37-year-old reached the milestone on the second day of the ongoing Test against England. He needed just one wicket for this feat. It got a wicket in the form of opener Jack Crawley. He played the wrong shot making the sweep. Ashwin got a rare feat when he was caught by Rajat Patidar at short fine leg.
After Kumble, Ashwin became the second Indian player to take 500 Test wickets. This happened after India were bowled out for 445 runs in their first innings earlier. Retired Sri Lankan great Muttiah Muralitharan (800) and Australia's Nathan Lyon (517) reached the 500-wicket mark. Overall, Ashwin became the ninth bowler to take 500 wickets in the traditional format, reaching the milestone in his 97th Test. 🏏💥
