An American woman, Cherish, faced a shocking experience in India when a jeweller in Rajasthan conned her out of ₹6 crore by selling her fake gold jewelry. The jeweller, Gaurav Soni, and his father have now been booked by the police.
In 2022, Cherish met Gaurav Soni and his father at Johri Bazaar in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The father-son duo befriended her and sold her gold-plated jewelry as pure gold, swindling her out of ₹6 crore. Cherish only realized the fraud when she displayed the jewelry at an exhibition in the USA, where it was confirmed to be fake.
Furious and determined to seek justice, Cherish returned to India to confront Gaurav and his father, who denied any wrongdoing. She filed a police complaint and sought assistance from the US Embassy in India. The embassy officials have requested a thorough investigation from the local police. The police have registered the case and launched an intensive search for the absconding father and son.
