Amazon Prime Video will start showing ads on January 29th 🎬📺

Movies and TV shows on Amazon’s streaming service will start getting broken up with ads in January unless you’re willing to pony up an extra fee each month.

A few months back, Amazon announced its intention to bring advertisements into its Prime Video streaming service in 2024. Now, the company has started sending emails to its US customers about including “limited advertisements” in its streaming service.

The rollout of ads will begin starting January 29 and the firm promises to offer fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. Customers can also opt for a new ad-free option by paying an additional USD 2.99/month (Rs. 249 approx.), which brings the subscription to USD 17.98/month (Rs. 1,498 approx.) from USD 14.99/month (Rs. 1,249 approx.).

The decision was made to enable Amazon to invest in more engaging content over the long term. Amazon also reaffirmed its commitment to heavily investing in Prime Video, which offers a wide selection of movies, and series, including Amazon Originals, and live sports.

Further, the company highlighted the expansive and fast nature of its Prime service. With over 300 million items available for free Prime shipping and millions of popular items with free Same-Day or One-Day Delivery, Amazon achieved its fastest Prime speeds in the last quarter.

We are also expecting the rollout to spread across the U.S., U.K., Germany, and Canada in early 2024, followed by France, Italy, Spain, Mexico, and Australia later in the year. 🌍📈
