Actress Mamita Baiju has refuted claims of abuse by director Bala during the shooting of the movie ā€˜Vanagaanā€™. In a note shared on Instagram, Mamita clarified that reports of mistreatment by Bala are baseless, stating that he neither physically nor mentally harmed her during the filming process.

Addressing previous remarks made in an interview, Mamita clarified that her statements were misquoted. She emphasised her positive relationship with Bala, describing him as a mentor who provided valuable guidance for her acting career. Revealing the reason behind her withdrawal , Mamita stated that she withdrew from the film ā€˜Vanagaanā€™ because she was occupied with other film commitments.

Furthermore, Mamita shared an incident that occurred on set, where Bala asked her to perform the ancient art form of ā€˜Villadichampaatuā€™ and scolded her extensively when she admitted she did not know it.

(ā€˜Villadichampaatuā€™, also known as ā€˜Villu Paatuā€™, is an ancient form of musical story-telling method performed in southern Bharat where narration is interspersed with music, an art of the southern states of Tamil Nadu and Kerala, as well as North-East Sri Lanka.)

The controversy surrounding Balaā€™s behaviour extends beyond Mamita, with reports indicating that actor Suriya withdrew from the film due to alleged misconduct by the director.
